Financial Transparency
As a community funded project, we want to be transparent as to where your funds will go.
As a community funded project, we want to be transparent as to where your funds will go. Below is a summary of how we will allocate the funds:
- Oumar Salifou, as the host and managing editor, will be the only one receiving pay. He will receive 60% of the monthly donations from Patreon to fund his research and journalism.
- We will hire Black contributors to produce engaging written and visual content for fair compensation.
- The remaining costs will go towards maintenance costs including equipment, website and legal fees, and additional investigative work.
- Bashir Mohamed, Avnish Nanda, and Nicholas Yee will be taking no pay. They will be supporting the project through their work.
Our goal is to hire Oumar in a full-time capacity. This would make him the only Black journalist in Edmonton with a beat solely focused on the Edmonton Police Service. Your continued support will allow this to happen.
Thank you again! We are excited to be on this journey with you.
